Flexible baffles

Flexible baffle.png

Project objective:

This project consisted of validating the mechanical resistance of fasteners supporting a flexible canvas serving as a baffle (deflector) in a pool of water. The canvas in question was approximately 100' wide and 20' high.

The main stress on the canvas was due to a difference in water level between the two sides of the canvas.

The first step was to determine the forces in play due to this difference in height then to analyze the fasteners by FEA and check their resistance.

Main challenges:

  • Determine the forces transmitted to the fasteners

  • Determine the maximum elevation possible with current attachments

Purpose:

A complete report was provided to the client clearly showing the possible height differences based on the calculation hypotheses.
