Automated cranes

McKeil 1.png

Project objective:

This project consisted of designing and building the hydraulic system and control of semi-automated cranes to fill and empty a merchant ship.

This crane concept, developed by the client, was to make it possible to fill and empty the ship at the same time since loading was carried out on one side of the crane and unloading on the other side.

- Charge/discharge

- Go up

- Turns

- Go down

- Charge/discharge

Main challenges:

  • Design a robust and reliable system for maritime conditions

  • Allow (4) forklift operators to activate automatic mode

  • Enable smooth and safe operation

  • Always place the crane baskets in the right place despite the tides

Purpose:

The commissioning and even after-sales service process was demanding. On the other hand, the system was able to be optimized to the point where the crew and owners called this project a “success story”.
