mooring winches

Project objective:

This project consisted of creating a new type of mooring system for a merchant ship.

 

The use of conventional mooring winches requires a lot of labor over short periods of time and at multiple times which is expensive.

 

It was therefore necessary to develop a mooring system with, among other things, the following characteristics:

- Automatic adjustment of cable tension

- Cable retribution in case the tension becomes too high

- Inter winch communication to maintain tension

- Control of winches using a wireless controller

- Control of winches using a console in the engine room

Main challenges:

​

• Negotiate the contract with a Chinese shipyard

• Integrate all the components into a waterproof enclosure

• Achieve performance goals

• Design a robust and reliable system for a maritime environment

​

Purpose:

Commissioning was carried out without any major problems and within the prescribed time frame. The performance and functionalities of the new system fully meet the customer's expectations. For them, it is a great success.
